Get a Library Card
A library card is required to check out materials and to access certain online resources.
Come in to any branch library to get a library card:
- Must show proof of correct address and a picture ID
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
- Cards will expire in 3 years
- Lost cards can be replaced for $2.00
With a valid library card you will have full borrowing privileges at all Rockingham County Public Library locations.
Collections The library strives to maintain a well-rounded collection of materials in a variety of formats. The collection includes general fiction, mysteries, romances, science fiction, and westerns. A large selection featuring a variety of non-fiction titles is also available. In addition to books the collection also features books on cassette and CD, videos, Playaway digital audio players, DVDs, video games, magazines, newspapers, recorded music, and much more.
Borrowing Privileges
A valid library card is required to check out items from the library. Loan period and renewal information for library materials is as follows:

Renewals may be made at the library or over the phone
The library does charge certain fines and fees for overdue, lost, and damaged materials.
* Items on Hold for another patron may not be renewed. Selected items may not be eligible for renewal.

Reference
All libraries offer a collection of reference materials.
Genealogy
The Linda Vernon Room at the Madison Library features an outstanding genealogy collection.
Outreach Services
The Outreach Department extends library services to the homebound, nursing homes, senior citizen's organizations, schools and daycare centers. This is accomplished through three separate services - Bookmobile, Homebound and Drop-in Library. If you have a suggestion for a new location for a Bookmobile stop we would love to hear your idea. Story Time
Story time programs are provided year round at the Eden, Mayodan, Reidsville and the Vera Holland Community Center in Stoneville.
Youth Services
Each branch has a collection of books and materials suitable for children and teens.
Children and teenagers may have their own library card, although their parent or guardian must sign the library card application. There are no restrictions on library borrowing privileges by age.
